Section 35.5 Compromises

The notebook format imposes limits, and this conversion chooses its compromises deliberately. Knowls do not exist, so cross-references are ordinary hyperlinks. The mathematics renderer inside a Jupyter application is fixed and cannot be configured, so your macros travel in a small (empty-looking) cell near the top of each notebook, and a few PreTeXt constructions substitute equivalents from core (a shaded fill-in blank, for example, renders as an empty box). Interactive elements from the web version—embedded video players, interactive exercises—appear in their static forms, as they do in print.
